Utopian places are a contradiction in terms: ‘Ou’ is the Greek word for ‘not’ and ‘Topos’ means ‘place’. The utopian place is a place which does not exist. These non-existing places have always inspired and fueled the imagination of philosophers, writers and architects to create models of ideal communities, technical perfection and formal purity.

Utopian places are a contradiction in terms: ‘Ou’ is the This work allows for two readings: one of capture and one of freedom. One of this world and one of a utopia. This installation is part of larger body of work that explores prison typologies within the U.S. This work places objects, ripe with cultural meaning, within the structured architecture of a jar while light can still pass through and be refracted into angel wings.
